I am normally on the 5:57am BMX bus into Denver so I can be in the office around 6:20am. This gives me a head start on everyone else but also allows me to get out of the office between 3:30pm and 4:00pm to pick up the boys. In the summer months in Colorado the sun rises around 5:00am with first light sometimes 45 minutes earlier. My commute is easy then.
In the winter, it is hard to make my commute. It is dark when I get on the bus in the morning and a lot of times it is dark in the afternoon. This is brutal for anyone who is affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or any other sort of depression. Sunlight is a very important component in the life of a human. We need it to process vitamin D which plays a role in preventing depression. Winter months with no outside time and decrease vitamin D levels in any human leading to sadness. However there are alternatives but that is not what this blog is about.
Today's blog is about the Blue Light Special. I believe this used to be a K-Mart marketing tactic to get shoppers in the store just to wait for the Blue Light Special. As we all know, if we are in a store we will likely see something we need or something we want which makes us overspend. Brilliant marketing strategy. My Blue Light Special is something completely different.
My Blue Light Special occurs each morning on my bus ride into Denver from Louisville. It is dark but they have blue lights illuminating the bus. The blue light is great! It allows those who want to read read and those who want to sleep sleep. As a friend told me today when I was discussing the Blue Light Special, maybe the real reason for the blue light is to calm the passengers. Interesting theory and I am not sure I will ever know why they use blue lights on the bus.
Most importantly, the Blue Light Special makes for a great photo opportunity. I can take a selfie in a great blue lighting that really makes an interesting photo. So here is my Blue Light Special from this mornings bus ride. If you have any comments, I would love to hear them.
